Tips To Improve Immunity Among Kids

Being parents, we want to protect children, whether it is from falls, bruises, and bumps or avoidable diseases and infections. To keep children away from illness, it is vital to encourage them to follow good and healthy habits. These habits can cater as immunity boosters for kids – assisting the immune system of kids in fighting off pathogens more effectively and recovering faster. So, here are some tips on how to improve child immunity:

Serve More Vegetables and Fruits

Reach for colorful veggies and fruits when germs come bumping. Fruits and vegetables contain carotenoids that are known as immunity-boosting phytonutrients. A phytonutrient-rich diet can protect you against chronic diseases like heart disease and cancer in adults. Include five servings of fruits and vegetables in a child’s daily diet for healthy growth and development.

Breastfeed

Breast milk has white blood cells and immunity-enhancing antibodies. Breastfeeding guards against allergies, diarrhea, ear infection, meningitis, pneumonia, and urinary tract infections. According to some studies, nursing also improves the brain power of babies and protects them against diabetes, colitis, Crohn’s disease, and certain kinds of cancer. So, parents should breastfeed for at least the first six months.

 Increase Sleep Time

Lack of sleep can make adults vulnerable to illness by decreasing natural killer cells which are the immune system’s weapons that attack cancer cells and microbes. Kids are at risk of sleep deprivation, especially in daycare, as all the activities can make it hard for them to sleep. Ensure to double-check the nap policy of your child’s daycare and if required, put your kid to bed early to make sure they get enough rest.

Promote Handwashing

Most infections are spread by touch. Teach kids to wash their hands always after going to the washroom, sneezing, and coughing. Washing hands with soap and warm water for 20 seconds can at least can remove viruses and bacteria and decrease lung infections by nearly 45%.

Staying Updated On Recommended Vaccinations

Staying updated on the suggested childhood vaccinations can make their immune system remain ready and primed to fight dangerous pathogen that can cause polio, chicken pox, and meningitis. Vaccinations work with the immunity systems of kids to teach them to identify certain viruses and bacteria they might face, so they will be prepared to fight them.

Exercise Together

In adults, exercise boosts the natural killer cells. Regular exercise can advantage children as well. To get your kids into a lifetime fitness habit, become their role model. It is best to exercise with your kids instead of just urging them to go out and play. Fun family activities and exercises include hiking, bike riding, tennis, basketball, and in-line skating.

With the right precautions and awareness, parents can build environments that let kids thrive. Keep the above tips in mind to boost your kid’s immunity.
